The cancel culture, which is a modern manifestation of ostracism, has become increasingly popular in recent years. The essence of this phenomenon is the boycotting of certain people or brands that broadcast ideas (usually on the Internet) that differ from the ideas accepted in society. The cancel culture is a very complex social movement. On the one hand, this is one of the highest manifestations of the democratization of discourse, on the other hand, it is the power of censorship and intolerance to ideas that contradict the dominant social norms. In the article, the author attempts to find out what the development of the cancel culture can turn out to be for modern society: there will be a shift towards the development of social justice, or, conversely, the cancel culture will serve the interests of certain groups and suppress objectionable opinions.
