M.A. Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita” has obvious characteristics of the construction that realizes the coexistence in the work of three spatial levels: real, mythical and historical. The study of them is based on the theory of the mechanism of modeling the space of the artistic text, proposed by Yu.M. Lotman. Complex research and inductive-deductive methods of studying and generalizing cultural and spatial symbolism in the field of cultural studies are used. The article discusses in detail the meaning of the concept “home” presented in the novel. Methods of linguistic analysis are used to study its specific symbolic connotations. The article attempts to reveal that the spatial structure in the novel is mainly manifested in the duality of the concepts of “home” and “anti-home” of the cultural spatial circle. The meta-opposition, respectively, symbolizes the eternal confrontation between the spiritual and the material. This has important cultural implications for understanding the concept of “home” in modern society.
