The cultural and leisure policy as a form of youth socialization in the Chechen- Ingush ASSR - Grozny region in the 1940s - early 1960s

The paper deals with the official leisure activities of young people in the Chechen-Ingush ASSR - Grozny Region in the 1940s - early 1960s. In that period, the party and government dictated the cultural policy. The leisure activity of the youth was not beyond the scope of ideology as well. However, self-education prevailed in the structure of leisure activities due to the increase in the number of educational institutions: universities of culture, advanced technical and agricultural courses. More young people were engaged in social activities in their free time. The arrangement issues of the full-fledged leisure time of young returnees consisted in the traditional social organization of the Chechens and Ingush adherent to the internal cohesion and ethnocentrism. The Komsomol’s campaign for raising the youth culture declared by the Thirteenth Congress of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League was an important step in enhancing the educational work with the younger generation. Young people together with cultural bodies, trade unions, production teams were to participate in the construction of clubs, the improvement of cultural institutions, the amateur performance leader training. The cultural and recreational work with the youth was formal while the commercial approach prevailed in the activities of cultural and educational institutions. Many young people had little interest in events arranged by the party and the Komsomol, since they did not correspond to the youth leisure preferences.
