The issues of cultural and educational work as an integral part of party-political work in the Soviet Armed Forces have been studied to some extent in Soviet historical science, including during the so-called Khrushchev thaw (from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s). The historiographic sources published at that time had the same methodological basis - Marxism-Leninism, refracted through the requirements of mandatory ideological, and most importantly, political guidelines of the CPSU as the ruling party. The paper presents a lapidary historiographical review of the literature published in the specified chronological framework, which reflects certain aspects of cultural and educational work in the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army during the Russian Civil War. In the course of the study, it was found that scientific studies devoted directly to cultural and educational work in the Red Army were not published. However, many of its aspects were considered in conjunction with other components of party-political work in the army, with varying degrees of detail.
