Cultural and symbolic approach to zoning the tourist and recreational system of a small historical town (the case study of Torzhok, Tver Oblast)

Involvement of cultural heritage sites in economic turnover is a current trend of post-industrial development, the necessity of which is the use of new types of resources. Heritage, regardless of its belonging to the material or intangible category, is part of the territorial tourism and recreational system, and, as practice shows, at the present stage is insufficiently involved in the formation of the tourist product of the territory. Cultural heritage, as a resource, should become the basis for social and entrepreneurial projects aimed at developing domestic tourism, taking into account the interests of both city guests and local residents. Based on the study of the cultural and symbolic potential of the small town of Torzhok in the Tver Oblast, which has the federal status of a historical settlement, the format of zoning the tourism and recreational system of a small historical town is presented from the standpoint of ensuring cultural and symbolic development using the example of Torzhok in the Tver Oblast, which includes six zones. The starting or key aspects of the point of tourist development of a small historical town are determined by assessing the possibility of creating tourist attractions based on the use of its cultural and symbolic resources. The result of the study is a geographic map of the tourist and recreational system of the city of Torzhok with highlighted cultural and symbolic zones and a description of the semantic content, a basic list of cultural heritage sites and places of interest, objects of the tourist industry and infrastructure of each zone in the accompanying table.
