The article examines the problem of studying middle-class consumption practices in the Middle Kingdom through the prism of a sociological approach. Contemporary scholarship is actively studying the formation of consumer culture in the PRC and recording the emergence of a hybrid form of cultural practices in the consumption of goods and services by different categories of the population. It incorporates both the traditional Chinese ethos of thrift and Western values of individualism. China is believed to be undergoing a real "consumer revolution". It has been noted that the Westernization of consumer culture makes the Chinese feel modern, equal in opportunities to Western consumers, and in some ways even superior to them. Middle-class consumption is illuminated within a sociology of everyday life, which emphasizes the aestheticization of the process itself and the taste preferences of individuals. The focus of sociological research has long shifted to the sociology and anthropology of everyday life in the city, with the global city becoming almost the most important category of contemporary sociological research.
