Within the frames of the “Latin” course taught at the law faculties of different universities, the main attention is given to the study of Latin as a language of the Roman law, while the terminology of the international law is not duly represented. The course “Latin Terminology in Modern International Law”, presented in the textbook and in the dictionary of terms, bridges the mentioned gap and enables students not only to learn the basics of Latin grammar, but also to use Latin terms of contemporary international law confidently. The article deals with problem of the competence approach principles’ realization with the help of the new textbook. The textbook is also aimed at the early professional competency development. This approach helps students in their study of professional disciplines, facilitates in the acquisition of foreign languages, and increases students’ professional motivation.
