Medicinal properties of wild medicinal plants as the basis of their nomination in the Latin language

The article examines the peculiarities of the origin of generic Latin names of wild medicinal plants of the Tomsk region in the amount of forty-five lexical units, builds a classification of the motivating foundations of the nomination: external signs, smell/taste characteristics, habitat, medicinal properties, connection with myths/traditions, general properties, social group of consumers. Eight generic Latin names of plants, named according to the principle of "medicinal properties", are subjected to a detailed etymological analysis.
