Treatment of keratoconjunctivitis in shepherd dogs based on the clinical and morphological severity of the disease

Keratoconjunctivitis in shepherd dogs is characterized by a polymorphism of clinical manifestations: edema and conjunctival hyperemia; blepharospasm, superficial vascularization, focal and subtotal cornea pigmentation, formation of granulomas on the cornea, reduced tear production, formation of dystrophic centers of xerosis of the cornea, depending on the severity. Without a timely treatment, the disease can progress and lead to loss of vision on part of the animal, thereby leading to the deterioration of its quality of life. As a result of earlier clinical and morphological studies of dogs with keratoconjunctivitis, the animals were divided into 3 groups, in accordance with the severity of clinical symptoms, and, on this basis, the authors developed 2 stages of treatment. At the first stage of treatment, the blockade of the cranial ganglion, non-specific antimicrobial drugs, steroid anti-inflammatory and antibiotic drugs were used to relieve the inflammatory process and kill pathogenic microorganisms...
