Treatment of severe gunshot fractures of the elbow region using the Ilizarov technique

The work deals with the results of treatment of 12 patients with severe gunshot and mine-burst fractures in the elbow region according to Ilizarov technique. In the process of treatment isolated fixation of the injured humerus, ulnaa and radius was performed, that gave the possibility of early flexion, extension and that of pronation-and-supination movements as well. Use of hinges from the parts of the Ilizarov standard set provided early functional treatment in the traumas, complicated by the elbow instability. Use of the Ilizarov technique allowed to achieve functional recovery of the upper limb even in patients with severe wounds, complicated by great loss of bone and soft tissue.
