The legendary expedition (to the 75th anniversary of the encephalitis virus discovery)

Seventy five years ago, tick-borne encephalitis virus was discovered after scientific expedition to the Far East. The review deals with history of this discovery which became a turning point in the Russian medical virology. During three months, etiology of the new disease was ascertained; 29 strains of the pathogen were isolated; the role of ticks in the transmission was established; pathological anatomy and clinical picture were described; and therapeutic effect of immune serum was proven.
