This article may be of interest to practitioners - speech therapists, educators, defectologists. It may also be of interest to students and teachers in the field of defectology education. The article presents the results of a study of the lexical and grammatical structure of the speech of preschool children aged 5-6 years. The author chose a technique for examining the lexical and grammatical structure of the speech of children with mental retardation, developed by Larina L.Yu. and improved by Lopatina L.V. and Serebryakova N.V. The qualitative and quantitative analyzes of the obtained results are described.
