Summer ceremonies among the descendants of south Russian settlers at the Altai in 1950-1970s

We present here the analysis findings of summer calendar ceremonies among the descendants of South Russians settlers in 1950-1970s. Among them, the main ceremonies were Holy Trinity (Pentecost), the day of Ivan Kupala (Midsummer), Peter’s Day (Petrovka), Iliyah’s Day. The author characterizes the tradition of the summer calendar ceremonies (preparation of interior decoration, cooking traditional food, the decoration of specific items for the celebration, the course of the celebration, etc.). Author marked out the some specificity of the traditional holidays among the particular ethnic and cultural groups (Kursk, Ryazan, Ukrainian settlers). In addition, we focused on category of interdiction, associated with some of summer ceremonies. Author gives the materials, which outline the concept of the transformation of the feast of the Trinity, the various innovations (various kinds of archival records - records of the introduction of new civil ceremonies and festivals in the villages, the decision of district authorities). Activity of the Soviet cultural workers and anti-religious propaganda in 1960-1970s delivered the results that Trinity had got the status of a public cultural event, called the “holiday of Russian birches ” (the course of the festival “Russian birch ” is written according to informants, the event participants at that time). In present study author based on personal field research at the territory of several village in Mamontovo, Romanovsk, Aleysk, Charysh, Shipunovo, Pospelikha, Kuriya districts of Altai territory in 2012-2015s and as materials, which were got by method of overt observation, well as interview with age-diverse country people (educators, workers of district and country Cultural Centers, teachers).
