Liberal critics of the doctrine of religious restraint

This work is devoted to the question of religion in public sphere, which is relevant for Russian and world agenda. The author shows, relying on works of Western thinkers, the way it is developed within contemporary political philosophy. Thus, the paper presents widespread standard view elaborated by Cristopher Eberle and called as the doctrine of religious restraint and its main principles and arguments. As the critics of this view the author describes the principle of conscientious engagement that gives its own standards and specifies the basics of the doctrine of religious restraint. In conclusion the author notes that this problem remains unsolved and open for further research.
