Personal qualities and results of Mikhail Vorontsov's activity in Caucasus among his contemporaries

Personal qualities and results of Vorontsov's activity during his stay in the Caucasus as a governor from the position of historical anthropology is reviewed. The memoirs of Vorontsov's contemporaries and his letters to the Minister of War Count Alexander Chernyshyov are used as historical sources. The examination of Mikhail Vorontsov's personality as a man in time gives the presented study a sufficient degree of topicality and scientific novelty. The personal qualities of Mikhail Vorontsov as a man, military commander and administrator, and his approach to the issues of management are discussed. The role and attitude of Vorontsov to the Darginsky expedition of 1845 is shown. As a result of the research one can conclude that Mikhail Vorontsov occupies a worthy place among statesmen who contributed to transformation of the Caucasus into a part of the Russian Empire not only in legal, in accordance with the texts of international agreements, but also in a civilizational sense.
