The article is devoted to the problems of leadership in small groups. In the article the author gives detailed characteristics of research in the field of small groups and leadership in them. A major study of small groups is proved to be conducted with psychological and social positions, while in the process of activity a small group acquires new properties, it has its own specific features and demands its methods of research; a small group (team) can function effectively only in the autonomous segment of managerial space and must comply with the requirements of this space. Leadership in a small group (team) is dynamic and depends on the situation and the stage of the life cycle, which involves the staff of a team. The concept of informational metabolism makes it possible not only to determine the optimum composition of the group according to the action, but also to manage the leadership relations.
