Lymphatic malformations, also known as cystic hygromas and lymphangiomas, are benign neoplasms of vascular origin with lymphatic differentiation resulting from errors in lymphatic vessel development. This literature review describes the processes of lymphangiogenesis and the markers associated with them, as well as a number of current trends in the study of this pathology. A better understanding of the pathomorphology of lymphatic malformations will help to develop the most effective treatments.
