Resume: Glaucoma is an important cause of low vision and vision loss worldwide. In our country, glaucoma ranks 1st in the structure of primary disability and ranges from 16 to 37% in different regions, and the national average is 29%. Blindness in glaucoma develops from atrophy of the optic nerve, which leads to an increase in intraocular pressure (IOP) above the tolerant level. However, normalization of IOP does not always stabilize visual functions in patients with glaucoma; there is a progression of glaucomatous optic neuropathy (GON) with the involvement of retinal cells in the pathological process. To reduce the rate of progression of GON, neuroprotective agents are used. At the moment, more attention is paid to direct-acting neuroprotective drugs that directly affect retinal neurons and optic nerve fibers by blocking the main factors of cell damage caused by ischemia.
