The article analyzes the scientific works of Vietnamese researchers on gender issues since the late 1990s. Gender research as a model of social assimilation of male or female behavior in a given culture is based on the Equality Law (2007) and documents of the Vietnamese Women’s Union. Studies focus on the relationship between language and gender, the gender diversities of language associated with male and female communication roles. Masculine and feminine linguistic characteristics are reflected in each gender’s pronunciation, vocabulary and linguistic style. Vietnamese academics are more concerned with issues of sexism, by categories of pronouns, kinship nouns, gender markers named after profession/occupation, meaning of words and phrases (compared to English, Chinese and Japanese).
