The article analyzes hard and soft skills of a modern linguist. The author stresses the fact that an interdisciplinary approach to education of graduates of the liberal arts departments (specializing in linguistics and philology in particular) conditions for them a multitude of job opportunities. As a result of the analysis, the conclusion is made that it is important to preserve sponsored by the government form of education not only at technical, pedagogical and medical departments, but at the liberal arts departments as well.
