The language study in cognitive aspect (specifically linguistic cognitive modeling) might serve as an approach to develop the cognitive competence. The article studies the process of cognitive activity on the example of linguistic cognitive modelling of mental image «Space». Mental image as a multidimensional structure consists of several ideographic fields and among them the most important ones are Cardinal directions and Localization in space.
