The article deals with the linguocultural features of the expression of the politeness category in the Chinese language on the basis of a small comparison with lexical ways of expressing courtesy in the western linguistic culture. The basis of this article was the study of the Chinese linguist Gu Yuego "Politeness Phenomena in Modern Chinese", in which an analysis is made of how much the concept of politeness of Western researchers as P. Brown, S. Levinson and J. Leach corresponds to the Chinese notion of politeness. It is proposed to highlight the main aspects of Chinese politeness, or so-called maxims. It is argued that the presented maxims are the core of the Chinese concept of courtesy, which is related to the collective character of Chinese culture and the tendency to preserve traditionalism.
