The article deals with the linguistic and stylistic peculiarities of John Barth's fiction. His novels «The Floating Opera» (1956), «The End of the Road» (1958) are taken for the analysis. The usage of such devices as allusion, occasional words, metaphors, stylization are considered to be means of creating individual conceptual sphere in the works by post-modernist writers.
