Literary allusions and their artistic perspective in the novel Mary Shelley "Frankenstein, or the modern Prometheus"

In this article we consider non-traditional use of the famous Promethean myth about creation, which has received the actual derivation. Myth enters into a complex relationship with the legend of Dr. Faustus, with the plot of Lucifer, with P.B. Shelli poem, «The Tale of the Old Sailor» by S. Coleridge, and others. Transformation of the Promethean beginning in Luciferian, Faustian models of tragic individualism is traced. Poetic functions of the literary allusions, their ability to create a universal philosophical meaning of the novel with his artistic and creative originality also are defined in this article.
