The Kuban museum of literature: strokes to the history

In September 2018 the public of our region celebrated the 30-th anniversary of the Kuban Museum of Literature. The author, basing on her own experience of museum managing at the end of 1980-th and in 1998-2007, describes the prehistory of the museum, the specific features of collecting of its funds, of its main expositions and exhibitions. The names of many people who were involved in the process of establishment are listed. The museum is unique in a way that it is located in the house of Kuban Cossack Ataman Yakov Kukharenko, one of the outstanding ancient buildings of Ekaterinodar (the first quarter of 19th century). Kukharenko is famous as a historian, ethnographer and writer who wrote both in Russian and Ukrainian. He was also a friend and adherent of great Kobzar Taras Shevchenko. The author shares his memories of significant events in the history of the museum, about people who helped in organizing and holding exhibitions, about scientific conferences held under the auspices of the Kuban Literary Museum.
