We consider the problem of “transcoding” of Chekhov's play “The Seagull” into detective by extensive quotation of the original text and correction of the remarks in it by B. Akunin. Assumed connection between Akunin's play “The Seagull” and trendy in the postmodern literature genre of “remake”.
