Liturgical subjects on the pages of "Khristianskoye chtenie" in the 1830's

Tis article reviews publications on liturgical subjects in Khristianskoye Chtenie during the early stage in the journal's life - the 1830's. Te article describes the overall level and direction of publications devoted to liturgics and evaluates the scholarship of the more famous church scholars of this time period. In addition to those articles that are signed, a series of anonymous publications is also reviewed; most of these are of a moral and pastoral character, but nonetheless paint a more complete picture of the direction of interest for liturgical scholars in the first half of the 19th century. Articles devoted to commenting hymnography and patristic writings, as well as articles on heortology and sotereology, are examined; in addition, articles on the correction of liturgical books and translations into Russian of some particularly difficult passages from services and canons are reviewed. In conclusion, the author offers a general characterization of liturgical material published in Khristianskoye Chtenie in the indicated time period.
