The article is devoted to the study of the liturgical content of a unique source: templeconsecration charters issued by Russian bishops in the event of the forthcoming founding and consecration of a church. On the basis of the prescriptions of the bishops, contained in the churchbuilding charters from the archives of the Solovetsky Monastery, the practice of performing the rites of laying the foundation and consecrating the church in the Russian Church of the 16th-17th centuries is reconstructed. The author analyzes the historical development of the set of hierarchal prescriptions found in the church charters, and also compares them with the instructions of the Trebnik. Traditions associated with the consecration of the temple that existed in the Russian Church of the 16th-17th centuries not reflected in the liturgical books are revealed. The most striking of them is the obligatory service of forty liturgies in the newly consecrated church. The author also traced the connection between the indications of church-building charters with the books and the activities of church councils in the second half of the 17th century.
