The authors define the importance of these ideas in discussions of the status of such disciplines as logics, psychology and methodology of science. Many Mill’s ideas (for example, psychological justification of logics, critics of syllogism) received critical response in Russia and evoked long public discussions. In connection with this, the article examines some of the episodes and gives generalizations about Mill’s impact on the development of logical and methodological thought in Russia of that time.
