Logistic principles of international multimodal transportation of hazardous cargo

The article considers the issues of logistics management in relation to hazardous cargo transportation. Conditions for transportation of radiative materials are considered as some additional limitations which prolong the period of the functional cycle of logistics and affect the general level of costs when completing logistic processes. When using multimodal transportation of hazardous cargo involving motor or air transport, a conclusion on the necessity to make a managerial decision based on the assessment of overall costs for the entire route is substantiated. The paper proposes the cost structure for cargo delivery by road and air with the recommended methods for calculation of relevant indicators. Taking into account the specific nature of cargo as well as regulations in this sphere carried out by international and national profile institutions, a set of restrictions and conditions which are mandatory when implementing each transaction for transportation of hazardous radiative cargo is given. Calculation of alternative costs for the delivery of goods to a foreign consumer is used as a justification of the proposed approach. The presented calculations show the importance of the concept of total costs in making logistics decisions. Methodological approaches to cost estimation in multimodal international transportation of hazardous cargo can be used in planning of deliveries by transport and spedition companies.
