Minority languages of the North Caucasus and the prospects of their development in the globalization period

The article is devoted to the analysis of the current state of minority languages of the North Caucasus. The author points to the threat of the disappearance of a large number of languages whose speakers live in this multiethnic region. The main reasons for the disappearance of the languages of the North Caucasus are considered, among which the socio-economic, historical, cultural and domestic factors are distinguished. Some urgent measures aimed at the preservation and development of minority languages are offered, with special attention paid to the actualization of linguistic research conducted during the 20th century.
