The current stage of digitalization has determined new approaches to the functioning of small and medium businesses (hereinafter, SMEs). In particular, the use of a software (project) approach to regional development of SMEs, the application of digital business models of their activities. The activities of entrepreneurs have been fundamentally affected by the increase in the level of application of digital products and technologies that allow for competitive advantages in the market. It should be noted that in order to benefit from the market, small businesses must constantly monitor new products, modern tools and models that guide entrepreneurs to achieve non-immediate results. Such trends determine a slightly different strategy for the development of SMEs. In particular, their intensive inclusion in state programs for the development of the territory. Moreover, small and medium-sized businesses are assigned a significant role, which is manifested, first of all, in reducing unemployment, increasing jobs in the region, increasing turnover, etc. The specifics of the activities of SMEs are associated with the level of development of the territory, infrastructure and other factors. This article examines the trends and results of the implementation of program documents for the development of SMEs in the Republic of Buryatia, the development of small business infrastructure.
