The article deals with a little-known part of the creative heritage of N.V. Gogol - extracts from the creations of holy fathers and liturgical books. The writer's rough work, which includes extracts of various kinds, including church ones, partly reveals the secret of his work, helps to understand the hidden meaning of his works.
