Marcus Favonius – «Sancho Panza» Under Cato?

Бесплатный доступ

The author examines the key milestones in the biography of Marcus Favonius, who became known as an ardent supporter and imitator of M.􀁢Porcius Cato the Younger. The ladder of positions of this politician is particularly complex, since it has not been established exactly when he held a particular magistrate’s offi ce. Special attention is paid to the issue of the offi ce of praetor, which has caused discussion in the research literature. In addition, Favonius’ path is traced from adherence to Cato and resolute resistance to any form of autocracy to peace with dictator Caesar and the rejection of the forceful method in state politics. Nevertheless, Favonius’ life was interrupted by the events of another civil war.
