Office materials about the Bashkirs position of the Orenburg province in the middle of the XIX century

This article is devoted to the analysis of the report of Governor-General A. P. Besak on the management of the Orenburg region for 1860-62. The author of the article paid special attention to the description of the position of the indigenous Bashkir population contained in the report. According to A. P. Bezak, the main tasks of the government concerning the Bashkirs of the region for that period were to be translated into a taxable state, the development of agriculture among the indigenous population.
