Materials for the history of the Caucasian war in the manuscript by Vasily S. Varenik

The article deals with the speech of the writer Vasily S. Varenik, dedicated to the defense of the Olginskoe fortification in 1849 during a major attack by the mountaineers. A historical and geographical overview of the fortification and comments on the manuscript plan of the area of the bridge fortification, compiled by Vasily S. Varenik, as well as the text of the speech are given. The author gives a textual analysis of the entire manuscript album with the works of Vasily S. Varenik stored in the Funds of the Krasnodar State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve (KGIAMZ), examines the history of its entry into the museum's funds, acquaints the readers with the main milestones of the biography of the Kuban writer. The published speech is of considerable interest as a historical source, which reveals in some detail one of the bright battle events of the Caucasian War in the Transkuban region.
