Materials on the diet of the Himalayan brown bear Ursus arctos Isabellinus in Aksu-Zhabagly nature reserve

The article describes the seasonal aspects of the brown bear's diet in Aksu-Zhabagly Reserve, where it is the most common widespread predator. We have analyzed 847 records of the reserve on bear encounters and traces of their vital activities for 14 years (1978-1985, 1988-1992 and 1997). Determination of herbaceous plants in the diet of bears was carried out by collecting food immediately after the observation of the bear. Undigested fruit remains were clearly visible. The number of brown bears in the reserve reaches 200 individuals and tends to increase.
