The problem of ensuring children’s media safety, including when organizing reading in a children’s library, is currently becoming more urgent. This fact is confirmed by the adoption at the state level of various regulatory legal acts designed to ensure its sufficient level. However, despite the complex of educational, public and legislative measures implemented in order to deactualize this problem in our country, the issues of ensuring media safety of reading and preventing negative information impact on the child reader, in our opinion, remain acute and require new approaches to their solution. The presence of low quality children’s book products in the collections of libraries and in the free sale does not allow us to say that modern Russian children, using the services of libraries, are in a state of high information security from the influence of content that can have a resocializing effect on recipients and promote destructive behaviors. In our opinion, it is possible to solve this problem using the model of media security of the primary school age reader developed by us, which it is advisable to take into account when guiding reading.
