The paper contains results of experimental and theoretical researches of process of synthesis of titanium nitride in "hexafluoride of ammonium - sodium azide" system in the mode of combustion. Parameters of burning and synthesis are determined, the mechanism of formation of titanium nitride is established. It is shown, that titanium nitride crystallizes in the form of nanostructured powder.
