The research method include the method of questioning, the method of comparative analysis of foreign and Russian researchers on the issue of adaptation of aboriginal people of the North in higher school education. Based on comparative analysis of researchers and survey among the students, the faculty and employees of the North-Eastern Federal University and the Yakutsk State Agricultural Academy, the authors reveal the clue reasons of aboriginal people’s difficulties while entering the higher school studies, and propose the main instruments of retaining indigenous people as university students. As a result of the research, it is proved that the main adaptation problem is based on contradiction between the modern university study methods, acquirements and the indigenous people believes and moral values. In particular, individualization and students self-sufficiency as key principles of westernized education contradict with lifestyle and culture of aboriginal people. The authors have developed a complex of instruments which can help the universities to retain and enhance the number of aboriginal students at the higher school.
