Transfusion therapy is risky and costly, and the blood resources is limited. Patient blood management (PBM) is an evidence-based, interdisciplinary approach to optimize the treatment of patients who may need a blood transfusion. PBM covers all aspects of the examination and treatment of the patient’s surrounding a decision on transfusion, including the use of appropriate indications, as well as minimizing blood loss and optimize the patient’s red blood cell mass. Massive transfusion protocol is useful for the timely and proper application of the red blood cells and other blood components, can reduce the risk of mortality and acute respiratory distress syndrome among patients with critical bleeding requiring massive transfusion.
