The article provides the analysis of the influence of concepts on the historical cognition. The attention is focused on the role of the estate-class paradigm in studying of the social history of the imperial Russia; the author claims that the mentioned paradigm strongly influenced the studying of the development of the meschanstvo's social self-consciousness.
