Place and role of education in modern society

This paper discusses the role of education in the modern world and the problems facing higher education today. The study presents the analysis of statistical data such as the number of higher education institutions in the world and in Russia, the ranking of universities, the volume of state financing of higher education, etc. It is noted that the system of higher education, which has existed without major changes for a long time, is now somewhat outdated and needs to be reviewed both in Russia and around the world. The author concluded that with an increase in the number of higher education institutions and their graduates, the level of Russian education did not increase, but significantly decreased compared to the Soviet one. It is emphasized that in the modern world, the main value of the state is people and their knowledge.
