The place of membrane protection in the therapy of multiple sclerosis

The pharmacotherapy of multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the modern actively developing areas of neurology. Along with the emergence of new medicinal possibilities, an active study of drugs that have already proved themselves as agents effective in this disease continues. One such drug is glatiramer acetate. In this article, the authors present the results of studies on the mechanism of action of glatiramer acetate, which made it possible to demonstrate its membrane-protective ef fect. Given that in recent years, views on the pathogenesis of MS have undergone significant changes, in particular its positioning as a neurodegenerative disease, these nuances in the mechanism of action may well explain the positive clinical effect of the drug, and also confirm the new scientific concept.
