Metabolic syndrome and its components as possible modified risk factors (literature review)

The metabolic syndrome and its individual components have increased risk for developing cardiovascular disease, however, the recent studies show that it also contributes significantly to cancer development. If the metabolic syndrome is a modified risk factor, an additional motivation for its correction takes place resulting in decreased cardiovascular disease and cancer incidence rates.
