Metaphor in lyrics of authentic English musical video clips as flexible genre of verbal art

The paper presents an attempt to classify metaphors in lyrics of English musical video clips viewing the latter as flexible genre of verbal art. The main types of metaphors (genuine, dead and sustained) are singled out and their functions are analyzed. The phenomenon of convergence of stylistic devices is also paid attention to and the authors arrive at the conclusion that metaphors are often based on such tropes as personification, hyperbole and allusion.
