In the article etymological research of the ancient Lappish and Вaltiс-Finnish metaphorical plaсe names of Arkhangelsk Pomerania is presented. At the first step of the analysis the author considers metaphorical substrate names for which there are regional analogs in Russian. At the second step the author analyses metaphorical toponyms which do not have analogs in Russian, thus, most of them reflect specificity of nominative traditions in the substrate languages. In the corpus of the names several semantic groups are allocated. The substrate toponyms, presented in the corpus, not only confirm, but also supplement the metaphorical place names got in the previous researches.
