The article examines conceptual metaphors inherent in the historical discourse that deals with history featuring art and science. Conceptual metaphors are used to interpret and reconstruct the life of human beings in the historical past. Conceptual metaphor as a matter of thought is one of the system-shaping phenomena that shapes the world of the historical past, which is the matter of thought and arises complex, stable and emotional associations. Conceptual metaphors create vivid images of the historical past. The non-perceptual historical past, specific to national culture, is reconstructed due to conceptual metaphors. There are diverse reasons for the usage of conceptual metaphors in the historical discourse. One of them deals with the nature of conceptual metaphors to facilitate the perception of the historical process. In the historical discourse, conceptual metaphors are subdivided into text-forming and text-framing.
