The given article analyzes the essence of meta-subject. It also reviews leading meta-subject concepts developed by Russian scientists. The author gives the comparative characteristics of the main approaches to meta-subject understanding. She makes a conclusion on the dual character of essence of meta-subject concept from the point of view of educational process in educational establishments.
