This paper presents the results of studying the cohesive properties of bitumen obtained by the method of two-stage oxidation. Cohesive properties were defined as the force required to tear off two standard metal plates glued between them with a layer of bitumen on a UMM-5 tensile testing machine. The contact area of the plates with bitumen was calculated as the product of width (b) and length (l). The bitumen layer thickness was 1 mm. This methodological development allows a broader study of the properties of bitumen, since one of the main quality indicators in determining the service life of a road surface can be the determination of the cohesive and adhesive properties of bitumen. In the course of this technique, it is possible to determine the effect of the contact area on the cohesive properties of bitumen, as well as to determine the optimal temperatures of the first and second stages to improve the cohesive properties.
